Thematic  groups

AIDS is more than an isolated health problem!

AIDS affects all aspects of society in developing countries. To prevent the epidemic from spreading further, a holistic and multidisciplinary approach is needed. Therefore, development organisations have to become better at integrating HIV/AIDS aspects in their development projects.

This is the main focus of Aidsnet's members and they have set out three action areas for their cooperation to promote greater integration of HIV/AIDS aspects in their activities.

The action areas have resulted in the setting up of three thematic work groups: Strategy and Method, Children and Young People, and Stigmatization. Most of Aidsnet's activities are channelled through these thematic groups where members meet to discuss, plan activities and share experiences and best practices.

The thematic groups are open to all member organisations. An organisation can actively participate in each thematic group with one or more members. A co-ordinator responsible for organising meetings and co-ordinating activities is assigned to each group.

In addition to the thematic work areas, Aidsnet has identified three guidelines forming the basis for the group's activities which are:

  • a rights-based approach to HIV/AIDS interventions
  • the use of research in the organisations' HIV/AIDS activities
  • the implementation of advocacy and co-ordination of advocacy activities in respect to Danida

If you wish to join a thematic group or to get information about future meetings, please contact the relevant coordinator for the group. You can find contact coordinates for each thematic group under the relevant sub-page.
