Welcome to the website of the Danish NGO Network on AIDS and Development!
We live in a world that becomes more and more networked. No NGO is an island and a number of Danish NGOs and research institutions have chosen to align in order to achieve greater synergy in reproductive and sexual health matters. We have decided to work together in a network – Aidsnet.
We are an open network that combines a diversity of members with a common purpose: to create a supportive environment to support information sharing, exchange of experiences and advocacy in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
What is the Danish NGO Network on AIDS and Development?
A Danida-supported alliance of 31 diverse partners including:
- international development and emergency NGOs;
- Danish HIV-organisations; and
- research institutions working with HIV/AIDS interventions.
Goals
To strengthen the capacity of NGOs to address HIV/AIDS prevention, care, support and treatment in developing countries.
Strategies
To create a platform for knowledge sharing where NGOs can exchange knowledge and experiences, interact and build up trust and thereby become 'learning organisations'.
Institutional set-up
The network's different actors include (i) a steering committee that provides facilitative leadership, (ii) three working groups and (iii) the secretariat.
Structure
The structure of the network has evolved over time and now includes a co-ordination centre in the secretariat and a representation of the member organisations in the steering committee.
Core activities
A network depends entirely on the inputs from its members. The first activities of Aidsnet are therefore mainly initiated and driven by the working groups. The core activities include:
- baseline surveys on Danish NGOs' use or non-use of strategies and policies
- surveys on best practices in the work with children and young people
- courses on stigmatization and denial, etc.
- tailor-made electronic access to research, information and activities of likeminded organisations, etc.
- basic evidence courses for NGOs to train programme managers to demand and use research
- informal meetings where researchers present their findings in a ‘user-friendly' way/'research at a glance
- inviting students/interns to connect with the network in operational research
- linking up with Danish and European networks for synergy
