way that too few HIV and AIDS initiatives have done to date
• Similarly, it uses communication tools to allow us to understand better
the needs of children living with and affected by HIV
• It allows us to personalise HIV and AIDS, and to use our personal
knowledge and experiences as the basis for our responses to the
epidemic.
• It challenges the often defeatist and negative discourse that surrounds
HIV and AIDS, and infuses our responses with a sense of hope.
• It combines separate approaches to create a process that allows change
at a personal level to become a catalyst for change at a societal level.
The approaches Positive Vibes uses are outlined in the attached pamphlet. We
do not pretend to have invented these approaches – most are adaptations of
methods developed by people like you. But we believe Positive Vibes has added
value to these methods by combining them in a process that has
enabled participants to move from being passive victims of HIV and AIDS to
becoming victors able to address and overcome the epidemic.
We are hoping that you can join us for the May 19– 21 event, the aim of which is
to:
• Allow us to share with you our experiences and learning from the piloting
phase of Positive Vibes
• Provide you the opportunity to share your experiences of similar
approaches with us and other fellow practitioners
• Provide us all with the chance to explore the potential for future
collaboration
